The RealADSB application is tailored for stationary observers of local air traffic, providing a comprehensive platform to monitor and analyze various aircraft movements. It is compatible with traffic feeds generated by the adsb_hub or adsb_hub3 server applications, as well as offering limited support for feeds in SBS-1 BaseStation format (port 30003). This allows integration with devices such as the Stratux ADS-B and ADSBx feeders. Additionally, users can opt for the Airplanes.live API integration, which eliminates the need for additional hardware and serves as an accessible entry point for new users.

Users have the flexibility to set up their own traffic feed or utilize one of the publicly available feeds that cover regions such as Germany, the UK, and New York. The adsb_hub server application, built on Java runtime, is fully operational on various platforms including PC, Mac, or Raspberry Pi. It can integrate seamlessly with FlightAware and FR24 feeders or generate feeds using an inexpensive USB adapter coupled with an external antenna.

The mobile application presents commercial, private, and military aircraft on both a map and a scrollable list, sorted by proximity to a selected reference point—either the user’s current location or a specified airport identified by its ICAO code (e.g., LFPG). Users can access METAR information through a dedicated button once an ICAO code is entered. Furthermore, aircraft operating below transition altitude display adjusted altitudes based on the airport's barometric pressure. The application also includes robust search and filtering options by tail number, callsign, type, and altitude, applicable to both the list and map views. Additional layers showing airports and weather conditions are available for enhanced situational awareness.

For each aircraft displayed, basic parameters such as speed, altitude, heading, and rate of climb/descend are provided. Many entries include supplementary details such as tail number, callsign, ICAO type, origin/destination information, and even photos where available. Any missing tail number or aircraft type can be easily updated within the app, with changes synchronized across all devices utilizing the same iCloud account.
